The Symposium 'Metropolitan Habitats and Infrastructure', Shanghai, China, September 22-24, 2004, was organised by the Chinese Group of IABSE. The theme attracted 540 participants from 41 countries. The Symposium addressed the structural engineering aspects of buildings and infrastructure works, mainly in urban areas. The contributions were presented in concurrent sessions
