Analysis of Aeroelastic Bridge Deck Response to Natural Wind

The paper discusses a practical method for numerically analysing bridge response to wind effects.A numerical scheme is used which incorporates the natural wind characteristics, and the aeroelastic properties of the bridge deck in order to perform a coupled time-history analysis of the dynamic response.The application of the scheme to the footbridge Kehl-Strasbourg, a very slender cable-stayed bridge, is shown and the design of a sophisticated rocker-type Tuned Mass Damper system is outlined.
