H. Zhang, S. Gu, B. He, X. Lu, W. Lu, China

Shimao Rivera Garden is a complex of buildings located in Pudong New District, Shanghai. It is composed of seven high-rise residential towers, a school, a service center and a business center with a total building area of 700 000 m2. The towers are 49- to 55-stories high, and are becoming one of the landmarks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai.

The superstructure for the building is framed entirely in cast-in-place reinforced concrete. A Reinforced Concrete (RC) shear wall with a multi-tube structural system is adopted and capable of resisting all imposed wind and seismic lateral loads. The structure is supported by 56 m long bored piles in silty, sandy soil with a bearing capacity of 4500 kN per pile.
