The Ningbo International Convention and Exhibition Center is located in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. Its total coverage is 251 300 m2. The main exhibition hall is composed of two major parts
including the indoor exhibition space and covered outdoor square to the south.
The supporting conditions for the main exhibition hall’s large span roof are very complicated and the structural response
under wind loads is significant. The method using hollow sections of structural members filled with concrete for counteracting a portion of the up-ward wind forces was innovative and did not have an effect on the architectural appearance. Special bearingdevices were adopted to overcome differential displacements between the bearings fixed at the top of the five independent buildings and several cantilever columns extending from ground level.
