The new Bank of China Headquarters building occupies a 17 000 m2 site in a prime downtown location in Beijing. The building was designed to provide a total floor area of 175 000 m2, while the height was restricted to 60 m because of its proximity to the Forbidden City. The building consists of 16 stories of office space a ground banking hall, and four levels of mixed-use basement. The basement provides a 2000-seat auditorium, two in-house cafeterias, a parking garage
for 500 cars and 2000 bicycles, two bank vaults and mechanical rooms. The architectural design of this unique building has many variable features contributing to the complexity of the structure.
